I'm not exactly sure what the grade would be (maybe VF-20 details cleaned/scratched, net VG-10), but I'm wondering why your coin is pictured on vette1986's background?

Prethen, do you think it's cleaned because of the gunk around the edges of the rim and the scratch marks on the reverse?

The coin shows a lot of wear and is too white. It appears to have been dipped and is retoning. Dipping a coin other than high AU is always a bad idea.

Hi BigSnake, Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, this is what I would call a "problem coin". I agree with HABIB and Prethen on a VF details grade for the obverse, which has the too-white color of a coin that has been aggressively cleaned. The photo isn't sharp enough to show obvious hairline scratches but I expect they are present from the cleaning. There are some significant contact marks on the cheek and in the fields, as well. The reverse shows more wear, probably grading F-12. However, despite some light scratches it has a much more natural and original appearance. By the way, your coin appears to be the scarcer "4 berries" JR-2 variety which is priced higher than the "5 berries" type. Overall I'd guess HABIB is on the right track with a net-grade in the VG range. These dimes are difficult to find without problems. Prices are all over the place but an ANACS-graded F-12 4-berries coin sold on Heritage recently for $977. That was a no-problem coin and although your dime has stronger obverse details it should be valued lower than the ANACS piece. Hopefully your cost was appropriately discounted. Are you happy with the coin? That is what's most important.

I've always liked these coins. There looks to be a scratch on the reverse wing and there's a $ scratched into liberty's face. Did everyone miss this?

Amazon, I saw the face damage as a contact mark of some kind, but it does kind of look like a large S. Graffiti, then!
There are a number of old scratches on the reverse, but nothing that looks too bad to me. If the obverse problems were no worse than what I'm seeing on the reverse, this would be a much nicer dime overall.

Amazon, you're right...either through the power of suggestion or factually, it DOES look like a price sign!

Cleaned, graffitied and damaged (the obverse rim at 11:00). Ouch! BigSnake46, if the coin came with a return privilege, I would use it.

Amazon99, I saw the $ on her cheek. I would say VF/F details cleaned possible graffiti obverse.

Same, F-VF details cleaned scratched. The bright white is almost alwalys a dead giveaway of cleaning, but sometimes it is more subtle. Much more.
