I recently bought a pair of 1885's I bought one '85-O & one '85-cc from a reputable pawn shop in town that's been in business over 35 years. After getting home and looking both the '85-o is beautiful & no question authentic. The '85-cc is causing me to question it? I did the magnet test GOOD I weighed it & here's where it threw me off it weighed 26.4-5 it goes back & forth. Its gorgous.. High grade! But once I looked deeper with a more powerful loop it has a cast look? Dont know how else to describe it? before I go back raising holy hell, guns blazing I want to get some very serious input. I paid $625 for it! So it wasn't cheap & its raw. I'd Appreciate any feedback.
Next time buy certified. Even something like this coin in the link below is better than taking a chance on a raw version if you can't see a fake like that one, but hopefully you found out before it's too late to get your money back (although you could always go to court).
I see plenty wrong with this coin, not even a good fake, must be a older one. I've heard of coin stores having a good reputation, but never a pawn shop. I hope you get a refund, but I doubt a pawn shop would offer that, I imagine all sales are final.

I think it is illegal to sell a counterfeit coin, and illegal sales are not final. The OP may want to post pics of the other coin for the forum to check it out also, if one is fake, then others very well may be too.
Fake or not, I would not have paid $625 for it in that condition. As was linked above, they can be had in MS for the same or less money... If you take it back, you may to prove it's the same one you bought from them. You shouldn't have any trouble getting your money back, though, as it is illegal to sell fake coins. The problem, as I just mentioned, is proving that you're returning the same one you took out of there... Is there a reputable coin shop in your area? That dealer might be able to back you up its authenticity.
my thoughts exactly.. Also when side by side comparison it's a hair thinner than other Morgans.. Thanks for the feedback. Not one of you said maybe so I'm taking it back.. Thanks again...
