I dunno @serial but this piece looks machine-struck rather than hand-struck to me. Perhaps a commemorative?

And "1588" would presumably be the fictitious date the society was founded (or perhaps dated using their own secret calendar) - because according to Wikipedia it was actually founded in 1859. The piece itself stylistically belongs in the 1800s or early 1900s.

Thanks for the help, I have started to narrow it down a bit with all the information provided, I am contacting the society to see if they can help with more detail.

Quote: according to Wikipedia it was actually founded in 1859. The piece itself stylistically belongs in the 1800s or early 1900s. I noticed that too, though it looks like the medal also attributes founding dates of 1576 for the Leipzig chapter and 1588 for Prague. Maybe it commemorated a 300th "anniversary" consistent with your comments on style.

so I contacted someone from the Sclaraffia Monachia association in Germany with pictures and what I knew. he identified it as an old medallion that is actually dated 1888 in there calendar. it was gifted to people visiting the "3 concils" in that year. I will bet my bottom dollar that it is silver as well give how it feels in hand and the way it has toned. Now to establish a value :)

Gonna update this thread as I just found the exact same medal, but mine is made from copper, and very worn. Pictures hopefully soon.

So I will post my pictures here, then open a new thread if possible. Weight: 27.12g Diameter: 38mm It is possible this was a copper version of the upthread that was determined to be silver. This medal may well have been a pocket piece of a member of that society back then so it got worn down most likely in that manner.

Very interesting addition to this thread @mrw. In addition to being made from different metals, I think that the design executions are slightly different, for example in the style of the court jester's hat.
