Hello, I found this metal detecting and was curious if I should send it in for grading & if I damaged it bad by rubbing the mint mark. Thank you ..  |

That's a great find. If it were me, I would use a mild soap and warm water to get the dirt off. Do not brush or rub with anything, just let it soak and lightly dab it dry with a clean soft towel. This is potentially a very expensive coin, and definitely worthy of getting certified. See what the other members suggest, but take your time with it. Please post both sides of it.  Of obverse . Never rub any coin no matter the condition . does not look like a candidate for TPG'ing .  |

Was a nice coin, however the cleaned area around the MM lowers eye appeal TBH. Not a TPG submission candidate. |

If I hadn't rubbed the mint mark, would of it been a submission? I am trying to educate myself on conditions.. Thanks

That was a "very fine" coin when it went in the ground. It's a details coin now but is still pretty nice! Great find! (And a big  to the Community!) Edited by westernsky

I honestly still send that one in and maybe send it to ICG first for conservation. Even as a VF details that date isn't exactly cheap

When you first dug up that coin you should have given it a soak in distilled water using a cosmetic soft brush . Don't know what happened to that piece but 90% silver comes out of the ground in almost the same condition as when it was dropped in . Maybe a little toothpick action around the MM would have been much humane than rubbing the heck out of it . It's ok , most of us learn things the hard way .  |

Amazing find! Hard to imagine an individual beating that. Like others said, silver usually does pretty well in the ground most places, but the ED after conversation will get into in to a genuine/details holder and worth more than melt.

Soak it in some pure acetone. Would clear some of that dirt off. Not considered cleaning so you're safe so long you are using pure acetone not nail polish remover

That is basically the key date of that set, so very nice find! The one I have is slabbed, G6, paid $215 for it, and your coin has far more detail.
