I haven't seen a VF+ 1921 any mintmark Half dollar in ages. Even as details you're still looking at at least $1000

Anywhere from $700-$2000+ it really just depends what it comes back as at a TPG.
Rest in Peace

Drew buddy , if OP is unable to have this coin conserved then it would be nowhere near a $2,000 coin . He has a nice find there but lets be realistic .

Definitely not a $2000 coin if it's not conserved.

Thanks again on all the comments, I am just excited to have been able to save this coin . Especially one of the best of The series. It will probably stay in my collection for a looooong time.

I think soap and water will take care of the debris. Try that before acetone. If you end up using acetone be aware that as the acetone evaporates any gunk will be redeposited on the coin.

I'd try acetone before I did soap and water. Less chance of the "cleaned look".

Acetone:
I am sure my tally of soaking coins in acetone is up over the thousand mark. For a soak that's more than a dip just get a small container, I use a baby food jar, put acetone in the bottom, cap it, and let it soak. If you want to let it soak overnight, then make sure the cap is on so the acetone will not evaporate as this will deposit the gunk back onto the coin and it won;t come off (experience speaking from my very early acetone soaks.

No. Acetone is not toxic. No, it is not a carcinogen. Yes, it must be pure and a 2.00 or so bottle can be bought at Walmart in the health beauty section labeled as nail polish remover - just so it says pure acetone.

Yes, pure acetone has a bitterant added to it so people will not drink it. But the amount of bitterant is so incredibly small that the title "pure" is chemically acceptable and will not have any affect on the coin.

Acetone cannot chemically harm the metal of your half.

Congrats on a GREAT find!

Slabbing.
Ask yourself why you want to pay a company to have it slabbed.

Slabbing should not be the knee-jerk reaction that the slabbing company marketeers love for people to beleive it is. TPGs are an optional service that is offered to the hobby.

I have yet to see a coin that was minted with an official stipulation of, "if this coin is in decent condition in 25 years, you HAVE to slab it or you will suffer dire consequences."

If you want to slab b/c you like the looks of slabbed coins - go for it.

If you want to resell the coin - a PCGS slab will bring you a higher profit as many buyers sleep better knowing that someone has paid this TPG to look at the coin and offer an opinion as to the coin's grade. These same people sleep even more soundly when yet another set of experts was paid to assess the PCGS experts' work and affix a green sticker to the slab.

Other collectors don't care about what people who are paid to give their opinion think, and so the coin is the only thing they focus on. Many people here crack coins out of slabs and put the coins into albums or other holders.

To each his own.

PERFECT!

Don't do anything else.

Personally, I would slab the coin. Very likely, will come back in a details slab because of the scratch on the leg of the eagle.

But, don't let anybody kid you......every single person that posted and/or read this thread, would be SMILING EAR TO EAR if they found this coin.

Congratulations!!
