Meow is getting ready to fill that ATB coin album by CRH quarters and found this today. Greased die.

Well maybe Struck Through Grease, but these areas of roughness can also just be damage. Can you maybe post a close up image of an area where there are design elements present also (e.g. ITED)?

I am in agreement with Spence, the surfaces looks too rough and rigid to be a struck through or it could be the over exposed lighting.Need a better focused image without glare.

No it is grease or oil with grit in the mixture. Not damaged, but no premium for this. Knowing what it is the the premium. Very spendable unless you are creating your education file coins.

The reverse has a bit of it too in one spot. Its not a photo trick, and not PMD. Meow found a ATB Michigan quarter just like it.

I'm beginning to think when they polish a die, the grit and grease sticks in that spot.

I'm thinking the same thing as well, since it's pretty common to see on these Quarters. Maybe a new thread can be created that talks about why this happens a lot?

Yes, Meow has found a handful of Michigan quarters with the same issue also. The first full picture of the Wisconsin quarter is well focused and taken pretty good Meow thought; But some say its overexposed and out of focus. Meow begs to differ, as Meow thinks it IS in focus and looks over exposed because it is practically BU, and shiny as heck. Meow thinks its a quarter that got spent only once, then Meow found it CRH.

SilverDollar2017 respectfully disagrees with that. SilverDollar2017 thinks it is out of focus and has bad lighting. Of course, that is just SilverDollar2017's opinion.
