So...I need some opinions on this coin I came across. At first glance I thought it was wear from normal handling. However, when I looked at the back, the bottom of the right branch, and various other sections were faded. Is this a weak hit or just normal wear?

Meow comes across many very poorly struck dimes like this CRH. On the obverse the words "in and 'we' are half gone, along with the last two digits of the date. And on the reverse the "US-U" and "NUM" can be very flat too. Meow wondered for a while what was poor striking, and what was wear. One day recently Meow found a GEM BU 1985d dime with a poor strike, and got to see what a undamaged/unworn poorly stuck dime looks like. Meow will share its image.

The coin reeds are actually in good shape. That was another reason that I thought it might be a weak hit. The coin feeds are in the same shape as a circulated 2010 dime.

It does not show in Meow's image well, but that dime also has a very neat blue tint to it. It is one of Meow's favorite CRH finds.

Dies wear with usage.
Quality of strike goes down over time.

Duncicle, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree that while this coin does have some wear, it also seems to have been lightly struck, such as can happen with worn dies. There may have been a small amount of grease in the die as well.

Dies get worse over time. Nothing special.

I know in 1985,the dimes had a mushy strike. I did not know that it was still happening in 1987.

To CCF! As stated, your coin shows Die Deterioration, caused by a worn die issue, and it was maybe Struck Through Grease a little bit.
