Need Help With A 1989 Penny Plating Question

theking13 Valued Member United States 90 Posts	Posted 08/13/2018 09:23 am I found this yesterday and haven't seen one like this before. My first thought was that the copper was removed. However, when looking closer, it looks like the zinc is the plating. The front of the coin shows this around the edge. The coin thickness looks a little thicker than a penny. At first look, it looked like there was a stamp of another coin on the edge of the coin by the date. You can see how the zinc color overlaps. I'm assuming this was modified outside of the mint, but wanted to get 2nd opinion. Thanks Report this Post to the Staff
