I pick up a tattered penny book that was partially filled in a lot. I was glancing through it and noticed the 1946S kind of looked funny to me. . Maybe I am seeing things. But it sort of looks like a D under the S. You decide and let me know.

@moose, I'm pretty sure we need a better close-up pic of the mintmark to help. Just cropping the full size pic won't work in this case. I have blown up and enhanced this area of your cent, but the pic is too pixelated for me to see enough. Right now, all I can discern is that there is a vertical scratch which cuts through the number 4 and into the mintmark.

Sorry to say but this coin is not the listed S/D .
The position of the mintmark on this coin is much too far north to be the listed die

The easiest way to spot the 1946-S/D isn't the mm. It is the diagnostic SW-NE angled die chip at 11:00 in the inverted "V" of Lincoln's vest. coppercoins.com has a great photo of the die chip.
