I like the reverses of some of the proof platinum eagles minted since 1998. My question is; do those designs come in 1/10 or 1/25 ounce? Because there's no way I could afford the full ounce ones. Thanks.

From 1998 through 2008, the US Mint's proof platinum coins were issued in 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and one-ounce weights.
All sizes except for the full one-ounce version were dropped beginning in 2009.

In 1997, only the bullion version of the platinum eagle was available - proofs began in 1998.

Quote: I like the reverses of some of the proof platinum eagles... The changing reverse designs make the coins very interesting. You can generally find the fractional coins on ebay in Pt bullion section.

@Alpha2814: I don't know what I was thinking! I own the same coin you've shown - You would think I could keep the dates straight for coins in my own collection!

The palladium bullion is only MS for its first year (2017), will also have proof this year -- maybe that's where you got it.
I have a near-complete set of these $25 platinum, missing only 2006. Like the OP, I like the changing designs but don't have the budget for a full ounce.

I purchased some of the fractional platinum coins back in the early 2000s. I haven't laid eyes on them in a while, but checking my spreadsheet and spot of platinum, those purchases haven't held up like similar gold purchases from that time frame, even with gold's recent lousy performance. No biggie -- not selling any time soon. Just interesting to see the performance over nearly 2 decades.

I think that if I do decide to collect them, I'd go for the 1/4 ounce, because being smaller than a dime it would be kind of hard to enjoy the artwork on the 1/10 ounce coins. $350 to $400 per coin on average is still a lot for me though. I do like the burnish finish ones minted in 2006 and 2008 (don't really care for the 2007 one) at the West Point mint. There a bit more pricey at $500 or so, but they have low mintages (2,590 for the 2006-W and 2,481 for the 2008-W) and they look nice. I don't know what the bigger challenge would be; Affording them or finding them?

Get a loupe or some magnifying eyeglasses / readers. Good idea to have around anyway for checking out detail on coins. Quote: I don't know what the bigger challenge would be; Affording them or finding them? Rhetorical question, probably, and a subjective one at that. I don't think finding them will be too difficult though. In fact I see a couple on ebay now for under $300.

Exactly my reasoning for the 1/4 ounce set I'm building. Quote: I don't know what the bigger challenge would be; Affording them or finding them? Finding them. I've been at this for three years and am still missing the 2006, which is oddly one of the most common dates at PCGS. (That said, I'm holding out for PR69 for consistency and because I'm not paying a PR70 premium just to fill this hole.) With this kind of pace, affording them may still be an issue depending on your overall budget but it's not like you can just go online and buy them all any time you want. Throughout my search, I've scoured ebay, David Lawrence, Great Collections, and occasionally Heritage plus whoever appears in Collector's Corner. Most, I got in the $300-$400 range. I overpaid for 1999, 2000 (my earliest purchases when spot was higher) and especially 2008 (the lowest pop). I can almost guarantee you that when I see a 2006, I'm going to snap it up just to complete the set and be done with it.
