Imitations of this period have not been studied as thoroughly as those of an somewhat earlier time. In his 1911 work, Wroth attributed a number of imitations of Honorius and Valentinian III with various Victory reverses in the BM collections to a "Vandalic period" based on reported African and Sicilian provenance. Scholars today are less inclined to make the Vandalic association. I used to collect Roman imitations. I would have been quite happy with such a charming portrait in my collection!
