PMG is changing (increasing) their grading fees just in time for those who were planning to submit at the Long Beach show. I'm now planning to submit a bunch of notes to PCGS instead. Good going PMG!

Must be a serious price hike to get you worked up?
I do get that if you routinely submit a lot of notes, that even a modest increase will translate into a large cost to you.

At the last Long Beach show, the people at the PMG submission table didn't seem particularly helpful and I almost walked away, so little things make a difference.

So one can infer that PMG graded notes will become more expensive as sellers pass costs on to the buyers. I personally have about 50:50 PMG and PCGS notes. Will be interesting to see how/if that changes after the hike based on aftermarket prices.
And will PCGS get a huge flood of business like yours, jimbucks? Could this help make PCGS be more relevant than PMG? In popular opinion it seems that PCGS is currently a close second to PMG... so could the price hike make it change, or will it more solidly place PMG on top?

or will PCGS follow suit and raise their prices as well? ...and if you're wondering what the new fee structure is, it's in this PMG announcement. The economy fee isn't changing, but everything else is, so maybe they're trying to encourage more economy submissions?

I think everyone should save there money, "slab" their own notes and hand write a grade on the slip. Ultimately the people who are getting screwed by the TPG are those who do not know how to grade. Two people who know how to grade can come to a decision on a raw note and either a deal is done or its not. Non collecting individuals are buying these notes graded 66/67/68 and are expecting big bucks when they sell it. My question to them will be why is it a 67? Don't rely on someone else to grade. Sure it's an easy way to dispose of the notes but what happens if it ain't a 67. Then the seller just says that a TPG says its so. Just make mine UNC, doesn't have to be choice/gem or fabuloussss. KK

Quote: Non collecting individuals are buying these notes graded 66/67/68 and are expecting big bucks when they sell it. That's not true at all. Non collecting individuals are a MINUSCULE part of the currency and/or coins market. It gets so old seeing people making absurd statements like this because they don't like grading.

I looked into PMG to grade a few world notes I have acquired recently but it seemed very odd (like I had to join their organization so I could place an order?) or go through a dealer (& their fee was based on value of note?) 1) Could someone here clarify how to submit notes to PMG (should one join or go through dealer)? and 2) Does anyone here have their new fee structure? (thanks in advance)

KK: I would like to kindly remind you that this thread is about "PMG Changing Grading Fees" and not whether one should use TPG or slab their own notes. I understand your frustration with speculators & the lot... but, to get back on topic, I'm bumping this thread because my questions still stands: 1) Could someone here clarify how to submit notes to PMG (should one join or go through dealer)? and 2) Does anyone here have their new fee structure? (if someone knows "thanks" again)

Quote: 2) Does anyone here have their new fee structure? walk2dwater, See the link that I posted in my comment earlier in this thread to see the new grading fees As far as how to submit goes, it's really up to you. You can become a PMG member at the middle membership tier for essentially no cost (actually they pay you $1 since the membership fee is $149 and they give you a $150 credit) if you want to submit notes yourself (it's easy to do). Alternatively, you can speak with a PMG authorized dealer to see what they would charge for submitting notes (expect to pay a fee to the dealer for their service, BUT if they're doing a bulk submission it might reduce your per note cost and result in a lower overall cost). Finally, you can join the ANA and get PMG submission privileges as part of your ANA membership. Personally, I go the ANA route and submit notes myself. One thing to keep in mind is that when you become a PMG member you get NGC submission privileges as well, if that interests you.

Whoa there! Critical logic error. Quote: It gets so old seeing people making absurd statements like this because they don't like grading. This is assumption of motive with nothing having been said to indicate any validity. Absurdity is a term that is well applied to assuming we know other peoples' thoughts/motivations before asking them. ...although a psychic might be able to ...if they existed

Quote: 1) Could someone here clarify how to submit notes to PMG (should one join or go through dealer)? I would join and do it myself. It may cost a little more overall but I like having the control of the process and there just aren't many dealers I would trust to take control of my stuff without a written contract of liability for them
