Hello,

I'm a roll hunter and came across this 2017 Penny. I was just wondering what you though or if anyone has seen this before.

Hmmmmm, man that could be a DDO! Not sure if it's reflection or not. Can you take some better pictures? The whole coin plus close-ups of the areas in question and different angles of light.

to Community.
That's an excellent example of a Machine Doubling, although does not carry much premium over the face, but it is a keeper.

To CCF! It's Machine Doubling, because the device is reduced in size, and it's shelflike in appearance. It's a good example of Machine Doubling.

The devices are normal in size. The MD affects the bottom of the digits on the date. On a DDO, the devices looks like over inflated bicycle tubes. Enlarged and distorted.

Note on this one, the tops and bottoms of the devices look wider than the vertical areas.

See the spreads on the centers of the devices. Don't look at the edges of the devices as that is where MD happens. Look at the centers of the devices to see the widened devices from a doubled die.

Sometimes the doubling is so minor you need to see them side by side to tell the differences.

Thanks Guys I really appreciate it. Machining was the first place I went with it but but a little weary without getting a bit more professional opinion. The only thing that through me off was that it seemed like there were 4 distinct lines at the base of the numbers ( 2 where the base of the seven where the coin is at it's highest and two lower where the macining base starts and I just wasn't sure.
Thanks again.

Take a look again at the examples above. No where is the doubling on the tops, bottoms and edges of the devices. These areas are mostly where MD happens. Take a look again and note where you see the hub doubling. Mostly spread out from the centers of the design.

Ever wonder why they only put the 'P' mint mark on just this one year?

New information to me. Just read it on the mints web site.
