Anyone an expert on Chinese Provincial coins? I think this is Kiangnan 10 Cents Y142a.4 but there is no photo in the catalog (or online?) to reference. I arrived at 142a.4 by process of elimination. Can anyone confirm/correct? Thanks!

@jay1234, I'm certainly not an expert, but are you sure your 7.2 Candareens coin isn't from 1898 AD? That would make it either Y142a or Y142a.1, depending on the size of the rosettes:

This is it for 7.2 Candareens, sure yours isn't a fake?

@Spence: 142a has small rosettes and these are definitely large. 142a.1 is closer but the rosettes don't seem to match. I found a photo of 142a.1 here: http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/K...nts_Y-142a.1 That's why I'm looking for a photo of 142a.4 as it seems to be the only other description that could match.

@Crazyb0 why are you asking if it's fake?

Looks like 1898 to me (and fake) so not likely to be Y142a.4

@Albert - What makes you think the coin is fake?

@jay, not sure on fake vs. real, but I'm still stuck on the date of this coin. Yours seems like it must be 1898 and therefore must be either Y142a or Y142a.1. In order for it to be a Y142a.4, the date would have to be 1900. Or am I missing something?

The year of this coin is 1898 (#25098;#25100; on the coin indicated). The coin looks real to me.

I think it's fake and I often don't reply to pictures alone. But I will on this one. I have many coins like this. The color, the fat lumpy characters, the irregular parts found on portions of the letters. The circles of irregular and missing beads all look a lot like the poorer quality fakes I have. A poorly made cast fake looks like this coin instead of a genuine coin struck with steel dies.

Compare your crude fat lumpy characters and blobs with this image of a genuine coin struck with steel dies.
