I bought some old tokens from Canada and found this amoung them. I'm hoping someone dropped a gold sovereign in this lot by error. Can anyone identify this?

My research says that it is a (King) GEORG II coin of some sort. Any info you can give me is great. I can't find a date or a denomination so maybe it's a medal? I do see some letters at the bottom of the back that I don't understand.

I do know King George was from Northern Germany so maybe this is German?

@jj, first welcome to CCF. Second, you have a Nuremberg jeton. Not gold, but an interesting pick-up for your collection nonetheless.

The IAD on the rev are the initials of the guildmaster Johann Albrecht Dorn. Here is a link to a useful source of info on these jetons:

I hope to see more of your finds posted here, so here are a couple pro tips: please make sure that the pics you post are correctly oriented and choose a more descriptive title.

Thank you Spence for the identification. Don't think I could have gotten that one. Quite interesting.

Most of the tokens in this auction lot look like this and require some cleaning. They are quite dirty and some have oxidized and the copper has turned green. Here is another. I will post more.

to further extend the direction given by Spence :

your first piece is indeed a rechenpfennig from Nuremberg, produced by master Johann Adam Dietzel (master 1746-1768)

the material is brass, commonly used by the Nuremberg masters

OBV shows the portrait of king George II of England
REV a lion and a unicorn hold the English coat of arms around which one can read familiar "Honi soit qui mal y pense" from the order of the garter

the masters' signature is below. RE (IAD) PF

here is the link to another example:

comparable pieces were made by master Johan Adam Vogel

1c5d7n5m, Thanks for the link. The pic from the link you shared shows the coin very nicely. I'm happy to see another.

Here is one more of my Auction Lot. These are all old Canada and provinces tokens.
