I'm learning, very new at this. Don't care about value, just hit me with good/bad info, rating, etc. Coin is one of many, liberated from rolls from the early 60s. They shine (luster?) pretty good in lighting. 2 pics each, one natural light, one florescence front/back. Pics are from my cell phone, yes, I have a lot to learn about picture taking.... LOL Would ya'll add this to your collection? Thanks

Thanks on $$ but looking for grading, good/bad/ugly. This is actually one of my culls, kept the nicer coins in my collection. Would you say 50, 55, up or down?

I'd say a solid 64 anyway.

I would agree MS-63+ / MS-64

Ms63. Chatter on the cheek is more visible in one pic than the other. Very nice for the grade with great luster. Be careful that you handle the coins by the edge and not the flat surfaces.

Thanks for the replies! I did not think it would be a MS, there is some chatter and bag(?) scratches. I have 2 rolls the same or better condition. Is it a common thing for rolls from the early 60s to have this rub/scratches? I'll post the '95 O I got from a roll sometime. I'm thinking it's a 62-63 but has slight chatter also. I have many duplicates from several rolls, I'm thinking epay is a good place to sell them?

Quote: I did not think it would be a MS, there is some chatter and bag(?) scratches. These type of things don't affect whether or not a coin is mint state, only wear does that. As long as there's no wear, the coin is MS. It might be an ugly MS60, but it would still be MS. The majority of the folks who looked at this coin, based on the photos provided, think it is an MS coin. Some think they see a rub (i.e., wear), but IMHO that is tough to tell from a photo. You really need the coin in hand to see what's going on with the luster to accurately determine a "rub". In fact, it is VERY hard to grade any coin (especially MS coins, circulated are easier IMHO) from a photo, so take all expressed opinions with a grain of salt And OBTW, if you want my opinion. I'd say MS63 with a shot at 64.

Thanks! Looking at the photo, I'm curious. Across the top of UNIT(ed), is that a die break or just a scratch? Small one on the top (back side) also. (1st pic) Does that add/subtract from grading/value?

we can only grade by the photos we see which can sometimes be deceiving. lighting, angle and sharpness all come into play to cast shadows and hide devices. based on these photos I think its a solid MS63.
A coin can be slightly circulated and still be an Mint State (MS) coin. I have always stated that I think the graded systems should completely eliminate the alpha grades VF, XF, AU etc. and strictly just grade numerical based on where it falls on the 01-70 scale as all coins regardless with wear are a just representation of a perfect coin. So an F12 coin would just be MS12, an AU58 coin would be MS58. no more uncirculated or BU or Gem or none of those adjectives.
I think the reason these are still used is a throwback to early grading days and dealers dont want to have to grade using the new system as it takes a while to assess every single coin and assign a numerical grade that we use today. just my opinion
