I would get them out of the plastic if I were you. It looks like some of them are getting the PVC "green slime". Soak all of them in acetone to get rid of that stuff.

You will probably have to cut them out of the plastic.
After soaking pat dry with something non abrasive-do not wipe. Then put them in 2x2 mylar flips-you can get them at any coin store for 4-5 cents each.
Search some other threads here about PVC and acetone if you have questions.
No need to panic-they have been sitting like that for years I am sure, but I would not delay too long as it is not going to get better.

Most collectors would advise NOT cleaning your coins. Just saying.
But, its whatever you want. Green spots suck. The decision is yours to make and its a toughie!
Perhaps you could clean the green ones but be sure to leave the rest as is. Do you plan to keep them or sell them?

Giving them an acetone bath is perfectly OK it will not hurt the coins and will help take the green crap off.

Acetone dips or short soaks will not harm those silver coins one iota. The pvc green will turn to corrosion and WILL damage/discolor the coins. You will have to be careful of fingerprints and washing off coins with distilled water before getting them in mylar. It's not the acetone you are washing off with water, it's the crap that the acetone dislodged/neutralized.

as per the question am I planning to keep or sell? I will most likely keep as I dont think there is enough value in all of them to sell. I will probably acetone clean them, store them properly and then pass them along to my nephew at some point.

Note, the .6 oz per $ face value rule only applies to the 80% silver 1920 and later. 1919 and earlier is sterling 92.5% silver. A couple of previous posts have pointed you to the online price guide. The same site has a grading guide with pictures http://coinsandcanada.com/coins-grading.php
