Hi Guys I hope someone who is expert on Sasanian coins can help me. I bought this coin a while back but recently did some research on it. I can not find any example with same die on acsearch I do not have any complete reference book of sasanian coin with images to check so wondering if any sasanian expert can help me to know if this coin is authentic or not? To me the style of bust looks a bit odd but again I am not expert on this area. I should also mention that one dealer locally condemn the coin based on the fact that the silver rings with higher pitch .

Your coin is genuine and a very nice example. Reference is Gobl III/2.

Looks fine to me as well. I believe the survival rate of Ardashir I drachms is very low, hence lots of variety with low populations for each.

Thanks alot Ron and Finn for help. @Ron I checked the reference you said on the acsearch and although they were similar but I could not find any die match . for example the dot in front of the bust crown which is in my example was not in any of Gobl III/2 on acsearch. Is there any other resource or book I can find all varieties which include all die variations?

If I may offer a suggestion, the closest thing to what you are looking for may be the sylloges: Sylloge nummorum Sasanidarumhttps://www.oeaw.ac.at/en/ancient/r...sasanidarum/and Sylloge of the Sasanian Coins in the National Museum of Iranhttps://spinkbooks.com/index.php?ro...oduct_id=217Additional collections include SNS Israel, SNS Schaaf, SNS Tajikistan. SNS Tajikistan and more. A sylloge is a special presentation format for important collections, usually having quality photographic plates and detailed descriptions on facing pages for easy reference.

Hi Guys For those interested I only found one coin online that matched the hair and bust style of my coin. its actually impressive that this coin bust style quite rare. the referenced coin was unearthed in afghanistan which tesfify my guess or assumption that my coin was an eastern city mint. The mettalic analysis confirmed that my coin came from same mine with coins minted in hekatomplyos and Herat. https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=164777

Unless I'm missing something these two coin do not have the same wear. Congrats on having two Ardashir drachms I still don't own one. I don't see any problems with these coins.

@AlRashid, I'm not sure that I agree that these two coins were struck from the same die (at least on the obv where I have looked most closely). For example, compare the length and relative position of the two hairs behind the topknot on the portrait:
"If you climb a good tree, you get a push." -----Ghanaian proverb
"The danger we all now face is distinguishing between what is authentic and what is performed." -----King Adz

Thanks Ron and spence so much for help. Ron, I love Ardashir so I got 3 coins from him the first one I posted and the second coin in the last post and one obol. Hope you get one soon but I heard from a dealer that recently there are fakes of it coming on market so you have to watch for that when you decide to buy it.
Spencer you have great eye to catch that small detail. what made me think they are same die was the presence of a lump of metal on the neck below beard on both coins.
