Hi Guys- A friend at church who knows I am an ancient coin collector approached me and said he would like to make a trade for a couple of ancient coins from the Holy Land. I told him I was actually a Roman coin collector but would search my junk to see if I could find something that would fit his request. I gave him two coins about two weeks ago and told him what they were. Yes, I know what they are, but you can ID them if you want to. Small one 15mm and 1.3 grams. Large one 18x20 mm and 9.5 grams. He brought me his trade yesterday. Woot! I asked for the coins back so I could post pics here. Looks like a super big petrified cockroach! It's a trilobite. I need to go to another board to find out exactly what it is-

That's sick! On the down low I also collect gems and shark teeth as well as other fossils so this is super cool to me! And that's a big unbroken exoskeleton which means it's worth A LOT!

Good trade...I guess? I have no idea about the value of the trilobite, but I assume you got the better part of the bargain. I assume the coins are a prutah of Agrippa I and, perhaps, a Caesarea Maritima issue? Hostilian?

That's a great trilobite! Might be a Crotocephalina from Morocco. Just like coins, there are a lot of fake trilobites from China, but that one looks pretty real!

Quote: Interesting item, but one that would not fit in my type set. SOOOO funny. We all face this dilemma of wonderful artifacts with their stories. Do we just stick to coins and limit ourselves? Or go bankrupt pursuing the next cool thing? I love fossils, too. Because they send you off to learn about the history.

Bug report update- I talked to my friend at church today and he is very pleased with the trade for the Herod Agrippa I year 6 and the Hostilian from Caesarea Maritima. He said the trilobite was from Morocco and he got it in a garage sale so he didn't pay much for it. I love it! Not many guys have a huge 350-million-year-old petrified cockroach on a shelf in their man cave!

Amazing I used to quite fascinated by trilobites and always wanted to find a nice one I believe this is a very early type Before they evolved into a more familiar looking type somewhat resembling the modern horseshoe crab I can't believe it's not worth much much more than he asked Perhaps he is an "unbeliever" in prehistory ?

Hm, very interesting! The trilobite is obviously 3 lobites, a denomination similar in size to the Aes grave. Just kidding, cool fossil.

I'd trade a handful of crusties for a nice trilobite fossil any day! Nice trade!
