Not a circulation find for me - but it is circulated and was found in an old jar of coins I have had for years.

1971 20cent. Low mintage.

Seems like the 1971 20c piece doesn't get anywhere near as much love as the similarly scarce 1972 5c piece for whatever reason.

It most certainly is the lowest mintage figure coins of this series. Can't go wrong with it.

That said, it's usually the commemorative 20 cents coins that disappear very quickly from circulation. Trying to complete a set of Centenary of Federation 20 cents was a challenge and these days - I don't remember seeing any in circulation for the last few years!

In spite of the fact that it does have a lower mintage it has never been considered a scarce issue. Most of the early decimals were common in circulated condition. As time goes by it is getting harder to find these in decent circulated condition.
Uncirculated is a different story though.
I think the day when the catalogue producers include all grades of Australian decimal coins will give this great hobby a much needed boost.

I agree - still see them in change from time to time (though I find the Centenary of Federation coins to be common I think).
