Hello, I have a 1958 D Lincoln Memorial cent with a mintmark that is skewed and angled. I included pictures of this cent. I have included a picture of a similar cent, for the same year, as a comparison. 1. What type of error is this? 2. How does it affect grading? 3. What grading would you give the skewed 1958 D cent if you were representing the grading company that has been commissioned to grade it?

@EM, there is a pretty large area over which these mintmarks were applied (by hand) to the die. Yours is certainly farther from the ideal location than typical, but I'm not sure that there is much of a premium unless the mintmark actually is contacting another device. Maybe others here can weigh in with their opinions?
However, the mm's location and alignment have zero impact on the grade, which is purely indicative of the condition of the coin.

Thank you very much! I learned more about mintmarks from you as well. I did not know they were hand punched in earlier years!
Thank you again for taking the time to review and respond to my post!

No prob @EM--glad to help and hope that we continue to see you here on CCF. I'm sure others here will weigh in with their own thoughts about a potential grade so that all of your questions are answered.

You happen to have a very nice Wheat cent ( not memorial ) with a very interesting mint mark placement . As mentioned the MM was hand punched and were known to be slightly off from standard location . I love the color and eye appeal on your coin , holder it and keep it. Not that it's valuable but an interesting beauty !

Mint mark locations always varied, since they were punched in by hand.
Errers and Varietys.

The mint mark location is common this year. The CCW rotation makes it a bit more unique. I'm unable to cue in any markers with current images. A closer look at the MM or compare to coppercoins or other listings. Curious may or may not reveal a potential RPM. Thanks, Doug.

What's up with the rim?

Rim near the 8 area looks like the coin was dropped at one time. Nothing positive as a variety. Just a normal circulated coin with a few finger prints and the ding.
