Finn - your two Japanese coins are quite charming. Thanks for showing them.

I'm having trouble getting the color right on this one, but this is as close as I could get after an hour of trying. It is an upgrade to one of the slots on my serious set. The auction photo really disguised it's true VAM identification.

Beautiful pieces, everyone. Love that Morgan, Chute. I know what you mean about it taking forever to get the right picture(s). It's tough with those toned coins, but it's a beauty.

I'm not seeing 37a but I guess the break could be hiding

And VAM-37A it is. The basic VAM-37 was easy to identify as it has a large somewhat camouflaged gouge on the Eagle's right wing. I wanted to upgrade my 37A but the auction picture didn't clearly show the defining feature, a field displacing crack above Liberty's forehead. However it did show a die crack running from the wreath to the left star on the reverse. I knew this was only on the later die stages, and likely accompanied the field displacing die crack on the obverse. So I crossed my fingers and took a chance. When the coin arrived, the VAM-37A feature was visible. It is easier to see in this photo, after it was converted to grey scale.

Nice SBA, jprine... that's one of the harder ones to come by. I still need that one for my album.

My mint condition box set of 1987 ANA Convention Medals arrived today. This set is quite hard to find, with an original mintage of only 200 pieces in each metal type. My set is serial numbered 168.

Interesting that there is a salute to the BEP executed on a coin/medal. Pretty cool, brg!
