Thank you Dagaz. I don't think the big buck there is that contrasting in color. The fighting bucks look a little overly muscular but that may also be a factor in my sharpening the image.
It just came out that way when I made the group pic. This is a stock photo I made up. these big silver coins are "on the way".

Pics will be forthcoming once I have time, but I've got a bit to enumerate. I'm also on my honeymoon (almost 5 years late, but better late than never). One of our stops was the Royal Canadian Mint.

At the Mint I bought the My Canada, My Inspiration uncirculated set. I also bought the silver 30th anniversary of the Loonie set. The big purchase was the pure silver proof set, the one with that gorgeous selectively gold plated silver dollar.

Since we're in Canada, we're also collecting what interesting bits we can from circulation. We've acquired circulating copies of all the Canada 150 designs except the colorized quarter and toonie, and a range of other commemoratives (some old Remembrance Day quarters, a 2016 lucky loonie, a nunavut toonie, and more).

I also bought a pound of random foreign coin.

In non-purchases, we toured the RCM on Tuesday, and that was a lovely experience. Here's the kicker, though. The CBC found out we were honeymooning in Canada and featured us on radio and tv, and put up a print article as well. The Mint saw the article, and got in touch this afternoon while we were at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights. We're going to have a private tour of the Royal Canadian Mint tomorrow with the director of the mint, walking on the production floor right up next to the presses and everything.

Yeah, this is a heck of a honeymoon.

I recently went to Dubrovnik in Croatia for a long weekend. I always like to read a bit of history before I visit new places in the world. This city is very beautiful and has an interesting history. It used to be the the city republic of Ragusa (1358-1808). When I came home I started to search for coins minted in Ragusa. I just had to find one nice coin as a memory of my trip. I found and purchased this nice Tallero (thaler) from 1765. At the time when this coin was struck, Ragusa was a vassal state under Habsburg Austria. The coin also learned me something new. I looked at several of the kind and found that almost all of them had scratches. At first I thought they were damaged in some way, but learned that this was adjustment marks. When the coin was minted it was checked for the right weight. Some silver was scratched off if it was to heavy!
