After sharing this on CT, Ray informed me that this is actually a die break, and even more interesting, it's a Retained Cud. This anomaly appears to match variety RCD-1c-1943S-25 on the Cuds on Coins website. However, it doesn't match it exactly, so this may be a new discovery! Stay tuned..... @giljan, those are some great Polish coins! Those pre-1600 szostaks are tough to find in such nice grade (I have been looking for the 1599 to fill a hole in my Poland collection) and you've found one in spectacular condition. Bravo! Your 1585 Vilnius trojak is also listed by Iger as V.85.3.a(R3), the rarest variety for that date from Lithuania. Again, great condition for this type! I just added this Batory 1583 trojak recently, not such great eye appeal compared to yours, but from Olkusz mint (R2 by Iger), which get pricey in high grade:   Edited by tdziemia

So, while we are on Poland, this 1531 grosz/groat, Gdansk mint, just arrived, filling in a run of Sigismund I coins from 1527 to 1540. Nicer in hand than in the photos, the gray patina has some traces of luster below.   Edited by tdziemia

very nice coins ! there was a lot of silver pooring into Poland from the low countries because Poland was a big exporter of grain by coincidence here is a recent aqcuisition from the same period, but minted in Belgium Silver snaphaen (between 1525-1528 - Delm.431) minted in Hasselt under Erard de la Marck (1506-1538)  the obverse is a beauty: exceptional sharpness, as if in mint condition, I never saw a snaphaen like that before the hunting scene shows Saint Hubert on horseback, with hunting dog and deer; all details are amazingly sharp unfortunately, the planchet seems a bit damaged (broken off?), and the obverse (11h in the legend LEO (= LIEGE) has a trace of mounting it seems); this coin probably never circulated but was used a ornament right from the start in edit: few details added    Edited by 1c5d7n5m
