Well, at least the 50p isn't some unusual shape - that is the same shape that has been used since 1997 (and, counting the larger pieces which no longer circulate, 1969).

long story short: an upgrade for my LWC folder, an addition to my type album, and other stuff.

stories & pictures:

a longtime friend who left key west a few years ago recently gifted a bunch of coins to me. I had gone to my mailbox to pick up a pkg I knew I had waiting, which was there, but the other pkg I was not expecting. had I known, I would have gone to pick it up sooner. it was postmarked may 27, so it sat in my box for about 6 weeks..

the picture includes all of the coins she sent me, plus the coin I was expecting, top center of the pic.. the coin in the upper right corner came with the nickels, dimes & cents..

the nickels are the 04, 05, 06 things, one of each from the P & D mints... and I noted that someone botched this batch of nickels during assembly; they shorted the assembly 1 bison reverse and included an extra ocean in view

(i guess I cropped that picture a bit too much, lol.. oops)

the cents are the 09 Lincoln reverses

and the dimes are all BU from the 70s & 80s..

the coin in the upper right corner is an 1854 Seated Liberty dime, perhaps a cull

as it turned out I needed that dime for my type album; bottom left corner of pic:

the coin that's top center in the top photo is a 1924-S LWC, XF. here's a pic of the XF coin (right) and the coin it replaced (left):

happy in the folder

a few weeks ago another longtime friend (but still a kw resident, I take care of her yard in the summer months) asked me if I had any extra coins from certain years.. 1905, 1909, 1924 and 1927. those years are birth years for my friend's parents & grandparents. I said i'd look. initially I found a coin for 3 of the 4 years she mentioned, but I didn't have an extra 1924 of anything. later that week I found that XF 24-S LWC up for grabs online, so I grabbed it. it was an unexpected upgrade for my folder; I bought the XF coin so I could give her the coin from my folder. she was totally stoked by the old coins. I gave her a 1905 Barber dime, a 1909 VDB cent, a 1925 SLQ, and the 24-S LWC.

i'll now have to re-home all those nickels, dimes & zincolns. I do not collect them. despite that, I am grateful for the gifts; my friend was thinking of me. I think she was 'gettin' me back' for the frog plate I sent her this past xmas. one of the many things I do is landscaping/gardening. I was clearing out the old (for a later chore of 'bringing in the new') in a friend's patio garden last fall and I asked about the frog plate standing in the corner:

he said, "It's yours", so I ran off with it, took it home & cleaned it, held it until closer to xmas, packed it up & shipped it to Helene, my friend, who was known as one of the many Frog Ladies on the island.. you know, really into frogs & frog stuff, raising frogs in the yard, etc.. so the frog plate was right up her alley, and she loved it:

I am very skeptical about non-coins. This ike looks more like a German scientist. Congratulations on your purchase

It is an interesting rendition, but I am happy to finally expand my Ike collection beyond the US border. There are plenty more out there. The quest continues!

Lots of nice recent additions! That's quite a nice gift of coins, MrPink, and and interesting foreign Ike, jbuck!

While I'm not a fan of colorized coins in general, I think that's a nice rendition on the Pride theme, mestephil. I only own a single colorized coin, the Canadian issue marking the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin. My oldest grandson was diagnosed with T1 diabetes over 6 years ago when he was only 10, so that coin has a special meaning for me.

Thank you, Errers and Varietys. Right now I'm focusing on the silver Ikes. I'm not sure if I'll move on to the clad.

I would at least get the proof strikes, and the 1973 (as those were not intended for circulation)
