Quote: 1997 First Strike PCGS MS-70 - $2529 PCGS was doing First Strikes in 1997? I thought they started that in 2006 or 2007.

That is clearly a recent label. (PCGS was still using the green labels in '97) How were they able to prove those 1997 ASEs were the first struck?

From what I've read no one can prove a First Strike or First Day Issue. There has been a lot of controversy about this and I read that in 2006 a lawsuit was filed against NGC and PCGS because their labels were misleading. Supposedly a First Strike coin has to be submitted to a grading company within 30 days of issue so the company would have to prove that they met the deadline because the mint does not keep track of that.
