I recently purchased this 2003 Maine Quarter from my LCS. It appears to have a Roosevelt dime struck into it, however, I don't believe this is an authentic error. Am I right? Is this a fantasy piece or am I holding a neat error coin? Thanks!

What did the guy at your LCS who sold it to you say?

The dealer didn't know what to say about it. He sold it to me for a couple of bucks.

The business at your LCS must be really down if he is forced to make his own so called ERROR coins this piece is man made and fake, it was done by hammering a Dime onto both front and back of it, take it back and get your money refunded, you were ripped off, unless he told you it wasn't authentic, which I doubt. Quote: The dealer didn't know what to say about it I highly doubt that, any coin dealer would know what this is!!

Well, I'm okay with it being fake. We both assumed it wasn't real and I only paid 2 bucks. It's a neat piece to have anyway. Thanks for the help!

It's a good learning experience for $1.75

It's a fake "error" coin, but at least you didn't pay a fortune for it.
Errers and Varietys.

Fake 'error' coin, probably a vise job.

With both designs present, it was squeezed in a vise between two dimes. Altering the quarter. PSD
