Guy, I found this today in a new roll from my local bank, of Kennedy half dollar with three dates on it. 1960, 1980, and 1983....please advise! At first I though some yahoo...punched dates on the Obverse. But then under a microscope, I could see that they were all raised numbers and not reverse number that look like fakes. Need your help on this one. I looked in the Red Book and can't find this coin anywhere....kind of crazy. Plus, this thing is very shinny. I can see my relection in the coin.

It's called a counterstamped coin. It's a good example.
Errers and Varietys.

Appears to have been plated also.

To answer you question in the title, you have a normal Business Strike Half, that was plated.

No! Well, yes, it has a yellow tint too it. But, I think mine was in error. Rather that have the 1960 to 1985 (25 year anniversary, Mine says...1960 to 1980 on an 1983 date coin....that's all messed up!

Quote: No! Well, yes, it has a yellow tint too it. It may have been plated, but most of it wore off in circulation. I know first-hand how easily gold plating can wear off coins like this. Quote: They used any old Kennedy date when making these. I think I got lucky with mine in that the anniversary date matched the coin date.

In going through my Father-in-law's collection, it appears we have this same 1983 Kennedy half-dollar with 1960 and 1980 stamped upon it. What might this coin be worth?

More left in the holder. (to a non collector) Out of the holder, face value. (to a collector) The coin is not original and damaged now to a collector.
