Hi Thumper,

Gee, from those pictures this does not look like a gold coin. I expect it is a replica made from non-precious metal. A genuine Oregon Exchange pioneer gold coin would be very valuable, probably worth well over $10,000 if undamaged.

If you can weigh the coin, that might help determine the composition. A US $10 gold piece weighs about 16.7 grams and I expect the Oregon piece would weigh fairly close to that if genuine. You could also perform a specific gravity measurement. Real gold coins will have a specific gravity of at least 16 grams/cubic centimeter. A brass replica will have a specific gravity of less than 9.

If you can post better photos it would also be helpful.

Another noob without pictures!

There are probably more fakes of this coin then real ones. If its not slabbed its likely it's counterfeit, with pictures we can at least get an idea. -PP

Hi,

It is a FAKE....

On a real one, the C of COMPANY almost touches the lettering on tghe line under the word EXCHANGE. Also the N of OREGON on a real one is higher and does not line up with the third line of lettering as on your coin.

Thanks,
Bill

Keepsake only. No value. Big time counterfeit.
