I've seen "colorized" quarters advertised, & even on late night TV, but never in person. I went to an estate sale today & they had a State Quarter album with 20 "colorized" quarters in it. They have had some sort of color applied to the reverse design. It looks like they were screen printed or something because the colors don't line up exactly with the design. I know they don't have any numismatic value but I couldn't pass them up. Besides, I only paid $1 for 20 quarters plus the album. If I get tired of looking at them I can always spend them. Wow, I think that was a great deal. $5 and an album for only a dollar.

wow those are actually kind of neat. yes, collector value is ruined but I have an up to date set that is collector's so it would be kind of neat to have both. I wonder why they sold it for a dollar?

Here, they are sold for $2 per piece. Sometimes there are more of these offered than the regular quarters (which are sold for $2 as well), and there are definitely more people buying these.

I'm nut sure why they sold these for less than face value. The estate sale was run by people that do this for a living. They come in & price everything out, advertise, & run the sale for a percentage. They have a lot of general knowledge, & research items if they are not sure of value.
Every once in a while something will slip through the cracks & you can get a "steal" of a deal. A couple of sales ago I bought a block of stamps that someone had put into a frame for $2. They were the 50 state stamps, good for postage of 30 something cents each & worth over $17. I pointed it out to them & they told me once an item is priced it's final. I noticed in this sale several blocks of framed stamps, all priced at face value.

Politely? JUNQUE! And a colorized post to boot! I do have a couple of them myself. Here is one that is double done! It's both gold plated and painted! (In remembrance of 09/11/2001)

Quote: It's both gold plated and painted! At least these things aren't here .. yet. There are colorized and there are plated. And hologram-ized, as DeathJr pointed out. But not both plated and colorized What will come next?
