I got this 1982-P in change today (it's in decent shape, considering!) but what caught my eye is the unusual rim.

The rim is very prominent, almost "split" at the bottom of the obverse and yet almost absent at the top of the obverse.

What is the technical/collector term for this sort of error, and how does it occur? Error coins are not my forte, so I'm going to lay this one out for the experts.

Thoughts appreciated. AB

Looks like a misaligned die to me. (MAD)

The rim anomaly is called a Rim Fin (where the metal on the rim folds over during a MAD like this)

Nice find paralyse! It's always good to get error coins for face value. :)
