As I know many of you go through thousands on Cents. My Question is do you pull the copper cents or let them stay in circulation?

Out of 10 rolls I pulled 78 81 and back LMC.

Do you keep yours or Set the Free ?

It's up to personal preference, really. Personally, I don't see any point in saving copper. I see way too many to even call it a "hunt", so just the Wheaties for me.

Well I sorted them and did up a roll. Figure it will be an excuse to save them that way the better half won't realize I'm stashing for an upgrade coin down the road lol

I do save the copper but I know I am not going to get rich doing so. All copper pennies are now at least 35 years old so they are getting to the point where they might actually have a tiny value above face based on age as well as metal content. Of course the value is so slight as to be pennies on the box but it is there and maybe will be noticeable one day.

Over the last 10 years since I got back into coin collecting I probably have saved (Preserved?) a few rolls each of most dates of LMC's pre-1983, some up to a dozen rolls as well as most LWC's from 1940 up. I don't do boxes nearly as much as I have in the past, a few boxes per year, so the majority of my copper comes from pocket change. I usually end up with a half dozen or so coppers each month as cash is so rarely used in my life anymore.

I used to save them compulsively in a giant jar in the garage. Saved up about $110 face value, couldn't find a buyer, and dumped it in a coinstar when I needed something from Amazon. That 80+ pound eyesore is now out of my garage, and I haven't come to regret my decision yet. In truth, had I just invested that $110 when I started the hoard (2008, during the economic crisis), I probably would have made a lot more than even the copper melt would have gotten me. Now, I still have an excessive amount of cents for my kids to go through when I kick the bucket, but at least they are all AU-MS now!

I have been setting aside copper cents for the last couple years. I don't know why, now. There is really no reason to do it. I got them from change, mostly, and a few rolls. I have never searched a box of cents.

I might have $5 worth to cash in at this point, so I'm not too concerned with that, either.

If you know anyone who collects elongated coins, they might be happy to take copper cents off your hands, as the copper ones work better in the penny rolling machines!

I did for awhile a long time ago and then just turned them in. There is no copper shortage and you can not legally melt them so why keep them? I have noticed in my area I see fewer and fewer LMC.

I used to save them until I had about 30 boxes taking up valuable space in my small apartment. I unloaded all but about 10. Now I only keep AU and MS coins. I also save red copper LMC's with issues for my daughters friend that gets the elongated coins when she goes on vacation.
Rest in Peace

I do it to keep them from being illegally melted. Or at least that is what I tell myself.

If the effort to hoard the copper cents would be worth all the pain, time involved and inconveniences, the Feds would have done it a long time ago and don't forget all those trips to and from the banks.....TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT.

I agree with Insideout. I've rolled enough copper to buy other things I wanted. Might sound stupid but it seems more justified or at least a way to put aside some cash I might not have done otherwise.

BTW. How do you quote someones post to your own? I can't seem to figure that out.
