Hello,

When I first looked at this, I thought it was maybe pressed. However, That wouldn't soften the lettering, would it?

A full obverse and reverse image may help unravel the puzzle. Thanks Doug.

Just Post Strike Damage ( PSD). It sustained this damage after it left the U.S. Mint. It's worth face value.

Hi John, you're correct, I meant LD but was looking for SDs when I found this.

I'm happy that I knew what you meant by LD; still learning. :)

Undoubtedly some PMD but to me the week devices indicate a lack of metal to fill them out.Maybe a light weight planchet?

Dennman - weight is spot on. I'll keep it, it's an interesting looking coin.

From what I can see it looks like two small clips. The setup was weaker on these areas so the the proto rim was weaker on those areas, so the strike was weaker on those areas. No way can PSD weaken the devices like this coin.

Something allowed a weakness of strike on those areas. Maybe a collar issue? But if you placed a toothpick on these areas, it would cover this. So it's to small to be damaged. It was struck that way.

I would. Although it is not in the best shape, it is an example of s slight part of the planchet missing, that moved to the rim, be weakly on the strike.

Although some viewed it as damage, damage flattens, it doesn't weaken devices.

Coop - thank you so much for explaining! Are you using my pics for an incomplete planchet?
This is cool, I feel famous to be mentioned by Coop!

Coop is right, post minting damage can't cause an anomaly that looks like this. Nice find

It would be a hard sell because of its condition, but if someone was looking for the smallest amount of incompleteness of a planchet yours would be one of them. I've seen another one that had a bit more missing than your coin. It actually formed an extension of the metal inside the clipped area:

Most of the time we see ends of that area showing the classic look of the area removed with the ends of the rim:
