It is interesting information to know that not all the ones with the obverse die disturbance are Cheerios!as coop said ,they must have continued using the same die!!

Quote: They match the obverse of the die disturbance on the "Cheerios" dollars and even match the finning on the edge exactly. I must be missing it. My aging eyes have been messing with me lately. Not seeing the obverse disturbance or die polish marks known on the Cheerio dollar. http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page20c.htmlEdit: now see coop's example of die disturbance that seems to match. I thought it was more like the die polish marks seen in link above. Is there a link to known examples with some finning? Interesting pair none the less, with the rim / edge section matching up as is. I'm still trying to deduce if die or collar or coincidence related. Thanks, Doug.

Thanks Doug! Yes, interesting pair. I have looked at many Sacagawea dollars and these are the only two that I have found with this disturbance on the obverse. I know of no articles related to the finning on the Sacagawea dollar my friend. I wish I did.

Well seeing Jim's example side by side the Cheerios example, I feel they are not from the same die:

Something else I just noticed where there is a difference, on the Cheerios obverse die there appears to be polish flow lines extending from the bust towards the mintmark.

So seeing them side by side helps us to example the coins die betters. Looking from one image to another allows the eyes to catch these slight differences. Thus why I like side by sides better.

Now, to figure out what caused the finning.

Keep in mind the outside edge of the die is the fields. Any contact with the field will leave a dent. A dent on the dies field will leave a raised area. Thus the two different dies were affected on the same area. Something else I noticed on the 2000-P Sac reverses is the lack of upper feathers, some upper feathers and the upper and lower feathers on the normal and Cheerios dollars: Possible die wear could be the issue on the normal ones for this year. But never noticed these before.
