Umayyad Gold Authentic? - Coin Community Forum

AlRashid Valued Member Canada 167 Posts	Posted 11/07/2018 9:19 pm Hi Guys I am considering to get this gold Umayyad coin it seems genuine but my only concern is the strange extra metal on the bottom rim. Does any one have any idea what could have caused this? Is this normal or suspect? Report this Post to the Staff

The reason I like the coin is it looks very natural and authentic compared to many similar ones online and it has a natural residual patina on the devices . I always prefer patinated gold coin than cleaned ones . Will try to see if I can get a bargain from the dealer. Report this Post to the Staff

Because Umayyad gold in general is much more pricey than Abbasid or other islamic gold. I see similar coins being sold at SARC for 700 plus. But I understand the ex mount reduces the price so I would say 400 would be fair price for this. What do you think? Report this Post to the Staff

Of course pay whatever you think the coin is worth, but I think that @KS has provided solid advice. This type of damage greatly reduces the numismatic value of virtually every coin. You can still buy the coin, but your eyes should be wide open.
