Good evening.. So I'm pretty new with this and I am so interested in finding errors! So I find this quarter tonite and notice these lines..anyone know what they are and how do I put a value on this with multiple errors being on both sides?

to CCF!

All I see is heavy die wear on both sides and normal circulation wear on top of that. It's a spender for me.

Look at the last pic around the neck area. These lines seem to be around the siloutte and on the reverse as well

Filled in letters are generally the result of a broken die pin. This is common enough, especially on later die stages, that there is no numismatic premium. Interesting to look at for sure, just it doesn't add to the value of this coin.

@SQ, ok good--glad to hear that you are learning. I didn't mean for my earlier post to be too harsh, so hopefully you didn't take it that way. When you have the time, I recommend that you look through the past 25 or more threads in this section of CCF. It is a great way to see what others have found for coins that either have an error or are just damaged.

Die wear is progressive. It starts off very soon on dies. It advances as the die strikes more and more coins.

The lines you see on the fields are like wrinkles to a senior person:

Die flow affects all dies. Even if they are doubled dies:

As the die keeps on aging until retirement get keep getting worse:

Die wear and Machine Doubling (damaged after the strike with die movement):

Sometimes the fields are polished and they flow lines may disappear, but they will show on the devices near the rim area:

The dies will be retired when they deem them no longer useful. But a large percentage of coins show aged to advanced die wear. So they are not a premium for a coin. Most seasoned collectors would just past them buy if they were looking for a nice coin to purchase.

@Storagequeen

There is a lot to learn, but a lot of the answers can be found here. I don't mean creating new topics, but using the Search box. This forum has been around for roughly 13 years so you can imagine how many questions have been asked and answers given! It's a useful tool.
