Weird lighting.
Might be some wear on the king's hair; could be AU55?

Hey guys,

I think those marks on the neck and some on the eyebrows could be from coin contacts perhaps. As per the lightning I can try to have some better photos.

Photo lighting could be better but the coin looks MS, probably 63 because of the rim hits on the eye brow and neck.

Despite the hit and a few scuffs, I'll say 64.

Thank you guys, I take the MS grading opinions as compliment and it's trully a good looking coin. Looks much better in hand.

With all that being said and the catalogue value the coin holds I am debating if it is worth grading it or not. If yes would it be worth the hassle of across the border at PCGS or ICCS locally in Toronto.

Again, much appreciated your inputs!

This is what a mint state 1948 dollar looks like.
Note the detail in the hair...

Could also be that yours is a weaker strike.

I recommend that you get it certified.

MS coin for sure. If you send it to ICCS (I wouldn't) they will probably net grade it to AU because of the neck marks.

It's a really nice coin except for the neck marks, a 48 always need to be graded if you expect max value

No TPG is going to downgrade a mint state coin based on bag marks. The definition of a mint state coin is that there is no wear; bag marks are part of the minting and shipping process.
