Well first off the die is not cast. They are pressed when they are created. They are part of a 4 step process, just to create the die:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
The hubs are positives:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hubs being positives, look like a struck coin.
The dies are negatives:
Hubs are pressed into the stock material to create dies:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hubs have lugs on them. They are incuse on the hub and raised on the die:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
After the hub is created, it needs to be reduced to the correct size:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Polished:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Inspected:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
They are setup in the hammer and anvil set ups:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Put into storage till needed:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Proof dies now laser frosted:
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....
Hello,-I-Have-A-Lincoln-I'd-Like-To-Share,-I'm-Very-New-Go-Easy-On-Me.....

This is just a condensed version of the die making process.
