I recently purchased a small group of products as a "miscellaneous" lot...Inside of this lot are the 2 coins I am posting here to see if anyone can identify them. The coins will not be received until next week but in the mean time I have pictures of them I am posting in this forum. I have spent a couple hours searching a coin database and am seeing symbols like that suggest they may come from "Judaea, Alexander Jannaeus, 103-76 BC, AE Prutah" period. But I cannot find any clearly identical specimens. Any information is GREATLY appreciated. Can anyone identify these coins?

Likely to be Widow's Mite replicas. Search Biblical Coins online and perhaps a match can be found.

Albert...LOL...You may be right. After you posted that, even with a minimal amount of research I have found multiple sources for "copies" of "widows mites". Why, on earth this coin would need to be "copied" is beyond me. Maybe for use as a movie prop or something I suppose. I had not factored in the potential for a "copy".... Nonetheless,,,I will post an update when I receive the coins. Disappointing to say the least but in line with purchasing general merchandise without certification. I will post an update next week.

@mcoin, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes this is a modern copy of a widow's mite. We see them with some regularity on CCF. Rather than a movie prop, my understanding is that they are sometimes handed out to kids during CCD/bible study. Regardless of the first use, there is no numismatic value for this object. Hopefully, you did better with some of the other pieces in the lot. We'd love to see some of your new successes too!

Spence....Thank You for the response. I decided to wait and receive the coins until I responded. Without a doubt, you are 100% correct. These are nothing more than a copy. I took a pair of snips and snipped the end off of one of them and it was nothing but a "Cast Iron" metal that has been painted to give it an antique look.

I was going to delete this post of mine because I initially felt like a fool for the purchase. But I think if I can help anyone else out by leaving the pictures in the post and my story,,,then perhaps I can help someone else avoid a mistake.

Thank EVERYONE for their response and help.

Dude, this is why we are here! To learn ourselves and then teach others: "Education is the key to collector success."
