Hi everyone, I'm a LONGtime lurker here at the CCF. I've honestly been hanging around and reading posts for about 5 years (while simultaneously trying to complete my 7070 album along the way). Anyway, I came across a bag of mixed silver coins from my father's home after he passed. Mostly common date Morgans, Walking Liberty halves, and lots of Indian Head Pennies. One coin caught my eye. I'm guessing it's some kind of homemade coin? It's nothing like I've ever seen. Somewhere along the way someone added the word 'NOT' to the reverse, but to me it looks like it was added after the coin itself was created. Does anyone have any thoughts at all on what this is? There's no hole for this in my 7070! Cheers, Eric *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ****** Edited by Staff to crop and/or rotate images. Not my area of expertise, but it sure looks like a civil war token: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, NOT ONE CENT Fuld 197-380 C XF R2 1863 Civil War Token.
Nice pick-up and glad to see you as an active member of CCF.

It's a civil war era token... They made a lot of different types of these during the civil war as a means of protest and / or support. Google civil war tokens, and also look for them on ebay under the coin category in the token section.

Correction, under "exonumia" under the coin category on ebay, then click on civil war tokens.

Also, a lot of business's back then would advertise themselves on token's that kind of resembled real coins... it would get people to look the "coin" over because it looked funny, and they would see the advertisement.
