In the ole days, We would place coins on the RXR tracks, The coins would fly off with tremendous force and distance. Imagine how one of the Apollo coins would react to the same.........Who Bets? PS, The end result would still be a "coin " that still would NOT fit into the albums.........

We would put some gum under them and they would stay on the track and get pretty well squashed....

New to the forum. If my calculation is correct, the $5 gold coin contains about .25 oz of gold?

Quote: the $5 gold coin contains about .25 oz of gold? Hi @Excalibur1701 ! That's about right. By my calculations the $5 gold coin is 0.241873 troy ounces of gold. The coin weighs 8.359 grams and is minted of 0.900 fine gold. So: 8.359 grams / 31.1034768 grams per troy ounce * 0.900 = 0.2418732815104452 troy ounces of pure gold. BTW: NGC's melt calculator rounds the amount of AGW (actual gold weight) to 0.2419 ounces. https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...emorative-$5PS: for new collectors, please remember that a troy ounce weighs more than a "regular" ounce, but a troy pound weighs less than a "regular" pound.

I ordered 3 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 Proof Half Dollar Sets from the US Mint San Francisco. Can anyone explain why the coins would come from a fulfillment center located in Memphis, TN 38118.

Some sets, like mint sets, have coins that come from different mints. They have to be put together somewhere. Perhaps that's done at the fulfillment center. Also, people often order multiple sets or coins. Shipping is less expensive if they combine shipping and ship out of a central distribution center versus shipping from multiple places.

I ordered a bag of 2018 half dollars (mixed P and D mints) and the package came from MEM, but I think the warehouse is actually just over the border in Mississippi? I imagine there's a warehouse down there with trucks arriving every day loaded with pallets of freshly-minted coins. Wonder if they do tours?

Quote: As others have mentioned, it's hard to get the capsule out of the clamshell case, but hopefully it'll free itself the more I look at it. I finally solved the problem to my satisfaction. I now put the capsule in obverse side up (the footprint). It goes in far enough to stay put and allow for the case to close, but not too far for easy removal.

I thought this set would have sold out long ago with the high number of JFK half collectors out there. I guess there aren't as many half collectors as I thought there was?

I'm still toying with picking up a couple more. just not sure what I'd do with them -- the current ( ebay) sales prices for coins in OGP hardly makes the effort worthwhile for the casual flipper. Guess it depends on what the prices do post-sellout.

..or collectors that aren't into Apollo coins and not willing to pay 54 bucks for their clad Kennedy...key word..."clad"
..and...it's only bee a tad over two weeks since they were released and with a backorder status thrown in
At this price point for clad coins I think they are doing great....now if they were silver it would be a totally different story
Side "Duh!" note...raw set sold for $85 yesterday..and they are still available from the Mint...others for $68-$83
