2017-D-Quarter-With-Unusual-Device-On-Reverse

Hi, I am seeking any info that may pertain to my 2017 D quarter. There is a device on the reverse of this coin that has stumped me for quite some time. I have spent a great deal of time researching, yet have been unsuccessful in finding anything similar that I could compare to. I am a baby in the Coin World, as I was only introduced to the hobby about a year ago. I would love to learn as much as I can, and there is so much to still learn. This is my first time ever on a forum, and I hope I am asking my question in a place that is appropriate. If my pics are unsatisfactory, I will try and fix that. So please let me know, and thank you so much for your time and any opinion you may have about this coin

to the forum and the hobby!

That looks like a contact mark from another quarter, the reeding of a quarter's edge matches the shape of the mark. This is just damage that happened after the mint, not an error.

@FW, first welcome to CCF. Second, your pic is just fine--well above the average for a first-time poster. @tanman nailed the diagnosis though--just damaged from a reeded edge of another coin (presumably a quarter). You can safely spend it.
