Hi all, I am newer to collecting and just noticed these Two 1919 pennies in my collection look very different... I'm not sure if this may be an error, a rare coin, or possibly just a misjudgment on my part- But to my untrained eye, the one on the left looks to be more 'red' in color, has much thicker lettering (especially when looking at the 'LIBERTY'), and Lincoln's hair (and also the Wheats on the reverse side) are much more defined than the coin on the right. If this coin was in your collection, do you think that it would be worth getting a professional's opinion to determine its value? Or am I just looking too much into this one? I thank you in advance for your opinion on this- And apologize if this is a 'rookie mistake' Thanks again and have a good night/day! *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Hard to say what caused the red, could have been exposed to some chemical or foreign substance. May have just been painted at one time. Businesses used to do such things to mark coins given out to customers to use in juke boxes and such so they could be identified when the change was collected. Definitely happened after it left the mint though. The lettering has probably just been subjected to 99 years of wear and tear.

Definitely not. The one on the left suffers from some environmental issue - perhaps it was buried once. to the CCF!

On CCF, all Lincoln Cents are considered Modern Coins, so I moved your post to the appropriate section for the proper attention. Please review the forum section descriptions, so posts are made in the correct section.

to CCF! First, I don't recommend you get this attributed by a professional. Second, it was probably painted or exposed to a chemical of somebody kind. Happy hunting! -CoinHunter27
