I have this 1956D Wheat cent that I can't even begin to explain the color and toning. It stood out from my immacculate collection of small cents. It's shiny but not like the shine you see from mint. Almost like a glittery shiny paint or something. I have others like this too what the heck is going in with it.

Dipped in acid and polished. Spendable. The weight should be a bit under 3.11 grams.

Seriously? Why would someone dip in acid? What benefit are they getting out if that? My goodness what if a child put this in their mouth? We know kids do stuff whether we can catch them or not.

Thank you for that. So should I get rid of all that look like that? It's still pretty but not collector status correct? What a waste of a nice coin.
Rest in Peace

That coin and your others are dead , If the acid concerns you , you can soak it in soap and water then dump them into the wild .

Sad that people would destroy coins like that. I advise you to check your 56 D for the D over shadow D variety.

Kinda like putting cents on the railroad tracks as a kid. I mean, what's not to like?

Not really. The acid removed thickness and width. Making them more of a dime size, to use in vending machines when you could get a soda for a dime.

Seems applied after strike. Maybe acid, or it may have taken a round or two with a sandblaster. Another way to clean up damage them nasty coins.
