I have a question, maybe this has been already asked, but here we go. I have recently been collecting the State Quarter Proofs, and the State Quarter Silver Proof Set. What I am wondering is why cant I find 1999 through 2003 anywhere. I see them being sold with the rest of the proof set, but never just by themselves. Am I looking in the wrong places? Are the boxes different than the eagle on the front of the 2004 to 2008?  |

They can be found. More and more people are just holding on to them, esp '99

Yea I know the 99's are near to impossible to find for the Mint Proof Set with all the coins, but is it really that hard to find the Quarter Proof set in their own box and COA?

2004 was the first year they were released separate from the proof set. So yes you would have to get the complete set to get the silver quarters. I have seen a couple of them listed on ebay as separates, no box or coa yet they were quite pricey still and probably targeted at folks like you, only interested in the proof quarters. |

As Coinaholic said the first year that they released the Silver State Quarter set was in 2004. So to get 99-03 you have to purchase the full Silver proof set. Edited by onejinx

You are pretty much paying for the State Quarters and getting the other coins free in the 99 proof set |

Yes the 1999 has been selling anywhere from $ 400.00 to $ 325.00 I found myself it was better to go to ebay buy an entire silver set someone is selling say 1999 through 2007 for $ 700 and up. You can then try and resell the sets you do not want and get some of your $$$ back. But you will pay allot for the 1999 and also the 2001 sets |

I agree with everyone and I might also take the route Brucec was talking about: Buy the entire silver set sets from '99 to '07, if you can get them for are $700 and sell what you don't want or need to recoup some costs.

You have to shop around. I recently picked up a 99 proof set for 275. thought that was a pretty good deal. I run across it when it had like 5 mins left. You will find it just keep looking

I wonder if they prices will drop once the State Quarter program ends and is out of the spot light. |

My thinking is they may drop a little then go up even more.
But who knows.
Wonder if the 1st year became worth so much what will this years do being the last year?
Just can't decide weather to get my usual two sets or get 10 of them?

i really think the reason 99 are so much is b/c coin collecting was kinda at a stop before state hood quarters. And in 99 no one bought the silver proofs but dealers and a few collectors. Now everyone wants to finish the set and are lacking that set. so price is driven up. I dont think this years set will be worth much. but dont not buy a lot b/c thats what I think. I will get my usual 1 silver set.

Everyone that got on late is trying to play catchup. Even most people that did start collecting them in 1999 probably only did so from circulation, only to learn later they could by the Mint and Proof Sets directly from the Mint, after they sold out for the year. With new Moderns......I think it's hard for people, but they need to think "long term" and not the here and now or 5 years from now. It's a rare thing to have a newly designed/minted ciculating coin be worth huge premiums from the get go. Whether individually or in sets or taken in pocket change. What Classic coins were HUGE VALUABLE COLLECTOR HITS WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT ? OR EVEN 30-50 YEARS LATER ? The answer (short of varieties and errors) is SLIM to NONE !!
Now it could be true that the best value for these qtrs (1st year or any year) may very well be right now........BUT....the best "test" is 50-100 years from now.
