Just starting out collecting coins and curious how everyone stores them?
Do you all just stack them up in different piles in a spare closet? Or maybe you put them in tupperware?
I bought my first nickel box 2 days ago. All of the nickles I took out I just put into a zip loc bag.

When I first started out collecting I used to sort out my Lincolns in clear plastic compartment boxes . The kind for screws and nuts . So that's what I would recommend accept for real nice coins which you should put into 2x2 holders . After awhile when the coin bug is at it's highest point ,you'll know what to do next . It'll come to you naturally .

Okay, nice. I've seen people mention something about books, but not sure what that is.

When I was bitten by the coin bug. 11 months ago I got some 3 ring binders from the dollar store. then ordered 20 pocket coin sheets and paper money sheets from ebay. (Quality counts here some are real cheep) then I ordered 2x2 folds both Ike dollar size and quarter size. At first I didn't right on the 2x2 or staple them So I could swap the coin with better coins. I have different binders for State Quarters P/D 1965 - 1998 P/D ATB Dollar coins IKE SBA PRESIDENT SAC Paper money FOREIGN Error coins - streched pennies - tokens The extras - doubles plus what I just don't want to kick back to the coin machine. I store in a shoe box in pill bottles (at my age very easy to come by) I have small medium and large I also have a box for tools. Magnifing Light LED light siccors tweesers stapler pen marker knife brother p touch USB Microscope Enjoy the Hunt

Storage of coins- it depends, it depends, it depends. I actually do a combination of all of these, depending on the age, condition, number I have.
Roll format- really great for compact storage, keeping BU rolls intact and unmarked, not so good for actually enjoying or seeing your coins.
2x2 holders- individual coins in holders to display them without worrying about mishandling. Can be stored in boxes, or in plastic sleeves in a 3 ring binder as mentioned above. Personally, I use one binder for each denomination to nicely separate them.
In Mint/Proof set holders or special display holders.
Albums/folders- such as Dansco, Whitman- to assemble the nicest coins into sets or near complete sets for those that enjoy the thrill of the chase to complete a set or the chase of upgrades.
In zip lock bags- lower grade common date coins, but can separate each by denomination, date or mint mark.
In divided containers- for example ones you use for separating different size nails or screws can be used for separating denominations or dates or mint marks.
In certified holders- for the most expensive coins of your collection or key dates that tend to be heavily counterfeited
Loose in a closed sealable container - not the best, except for junk coins of low value. I use clean medicine bottles to separate things out. I use these for modern stuff of low value.

I put them in dollar store ring binder coin pocket pages. Unless I'm collecting for melt value, in which I put them in coin wrappers marked all over "DO NOT CASH"

For more valuable or special coins I put them in 2x2's and put those into cardboard boxes in a cool, dry, area away from sunlight, and for coins that I hoard for metal value I just store them in large boxes on shelves.

USSID18, I like the variety. Can you give some info on the 4th one. I had Unisafe albums from Canada and removed the coins because I was worried about the plastic. Can you recommend a brand that's pretty good?

I think USSID18 about gave you the list of options! I use albums for my main coins, i.e. nickels, dimes, quarters, Ike dollars. Coins I value but don't have enough of to warrent an album I put in flips and store them in plastic trays, (similar to the ones made for certified slab storage) Any coins I simply want to hoard (I never give up anything with a buffalo on it no matter how many I have) I use tubes stored in wooden cigar boxes.

They either get stored in the BB or the LB (the big bucket or the lil'bucket). Stuff that's generally worn, damaged or dirty goes in the BB (the majority) while the nicer finds go in the LB (of which there are always fewer). Gonna need another bucket soon though, the BB weighs 117 lbs now and is starting to warp.
