i picked just eighty-two cents last night, but-- heh... I scored an unopened/undamaged rack of publix' from-the-deli pork ribs, st. louis-style, whatever that meant. someone left them.

pricetag: $17.99. score!

the rest of the story:

i brought them home, washed them off, picked all the meat off the bones, arranged it all on a foil-covered baking sheet and slowly warmed them up in the oven at 300*. as the rib meat warmed I whipped up a panful of bbq baked beans-- emergency food that I needed to use before it turns nasty-- and mixed the baked pork rib meat into it. as it simmered I mixed half a cup of dark brown sugar into it, removed it from the heat, covered it and let it sit a few minutes.

i had a small bowl of pork n beans with crackers. holy cow hog. yum.

so, this is yummy, but can be better. tmrw night I hit publix again, for bbq sauce, corn bread mix, an onion, some asparagus, a few carrots, and pecan pie.

I can hardly wait for dinner tmrw night. there's also enough to share with my neighbor and still be able to stow some in the freezer. winner all around. nice score.

the people are being extra generous this month; tonight I picked $0.99, and I scored a ten-pound sack of potatoes near a winn-dixie bike rack... pricetag: $3.99. fair dinkum score! I have taters for many weeks. yum. when I buy potatoes I usually just get two or three big ones, but rarely a ten-pound sack. I'm very grateful for a bike with a front basket.

Nice find, MrPink! At this rate you won't have to buy groceries soon!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

i picked $1.40 last night, the usual well-scattered change, but it was the first night since last friday ($1.46) that i'd picked a dollar or more. no complaints, though, because I also scored $30 in food in the last week (milk, potatoes & ribs). it made up for the shortage of coins.

No potatoes, but saw a coin lying on the ground at the gas station this afternoon. Went over and picked it up - a 2006 20p!
