Poll Question
Toning is quite popular among coin collectors, and can bring in way more money than you would normally pay for the same coin without toning. It's said that toning increases or decreases value because of the eye appeal, but if that is true then why do some collectors not pay premiums for artificially toned coins? If the toning makes the coin worth more money because of eye appeal, then why is artificial toning viewed as some sort of damage? I know some collectors view toning as damage on the surface of the coin, or a foreign substance on the coin, but the collectors who do buy toned coins for eye appeal shouldn't have a problem buying unnaturally toned coins. I do understand that collectors want the coins unaltered, but if toning brings in more money just for eye appeal, then why is Artificial toning decreasing value on coins? The natural or unnatural part of toning shouldn't make a difference to collectors who buy just for eye appeal. What do you think? Tell me what you think down below.

In my opinion, artificial toning is not my favorite. I like natural toning, It just has better eye appeal than artificial toning. (IMO) However, It does all come down to whether the collector likes artificial or natural toning. It's safer to go with natural toning if you are selling. You get a nicely toned coin, and people who want it just for the color will buy it, and collectors who want natural toning will buy it. If your just collecting, collect what you like. Artificial or natural, it depends on you.

It's not good to allow people to just add value to a coin.
People would just tone all their coins and sell for a profit.
Buy a coin, tone it, then sell it imminently right afterward. That's just a business or a scam, however you look at it.
I don't want that.

I agree with you, I however think that if people wanted to buy coins for eye appeal, they would just artificially tone the coins themself. That way they don't spend more money buying off others.

I personally think that artificial toning should not increase the value of coins. Natural toning takes up to many years to form, and artificial toning is done artificially and can take minutes.

If you are a true coin collector an AT coin would disgust you . They might look pretty to newbies but there's nothing quite like the looks of a natural rainbow toned coin .

I agree completely, I don't think artificial toning should be worth anything. It was just an interest of mine.

I am always a bit suspicious of beautiful rainbow toning.
I have very successfully fooled around with freshly minted coins, using very careful heating on my kitchen stove, to produce some really beautiful coloring effects.
Never done this, but I have also heard of silver coins with mint luster being left on a window sill exposed to the sun, to generate some nice toning effects.
It is sometimes very difficult to tell the difference between artificial toning and natural toning.

An artificially toned coin doesn't give the eye appeal and satisfaction of having a naturally toned coin. Just my opinion.
