I'm hoping someone can tell me if this is a mint or strike error on this 1998 P quarter. The 1 in 1998 is barely struck, as is the word "in" and "TR" in "In God We trust," Lastly, there is BARELY a P mint mark, but it is a ghost outline there. I took a photo of it on the laeft, with a normal 1998 P on the right. Can't find anything about this one anywhere. Thank you! Edited by allsmilez632 12/25/2018 12:39 am

I'm a super newbie at this. Is that good for me? lol. Does that make it rare?

Not really rare. They have to coat the dies with grease at times during machine's operation. Sometimes extra grease fills the voids on the dies resulting in missing or partially missing letters. Here is an extreme example: http://goccf.com/t/335219

They to tell that it is a grease error is because the devices are wide and close to the fields. (shorter) The devices are normally tapered. So when grease gets into the die, the devices can form the tapered end. This can happen in several different ways. Any where from totally blocking the strike, to weakening it and leaving it wider or make the devices angle shaped. Two of those events happened on your coin.
