So I bought this one as I thought it a pretty good deal. I paid a bit less than $60 for an MS-65RD example of this RPM in a PCGS holder. Now exactly what the coin itself is worth is hard to say, but given the current price to grade and slab a variety coin with PCGS it's almost cheaper to buy one than to find and slab one. So I bought one.

@TB, I wonder if you know whether there are any other RPMs where the two mintmarks are located further apart than this particular one. There has got to be almost a full millimeter of gap on this variety.

There are a number of similar distance or further away mint marks. But some of them get kinda iffy as to whether they are really a repunch or not, like the 1952-D where the second (or third) D is down on the rim below the bust. But here are two that are generally accepted: 1953-D RPM-028 (that I found a couple days ago) and 1956-D RPM-018 (found a few months ago).

The 1956-D cents have some of the craziest RPMs in the series, not even including Wexler's two controversial D/S calls for the year. I don't think whoever had the mm punch duties in 1956 had good eyesight or a steady hand. Either that, or he took too many sips of the Old Recipe before whacking the mm.

That's a fantastic coin!

A very, very nice coin. So, could you add a bit of information here? I mentioned about how much it would cost to actually PCGS slab one, but didn't say exactly how much as I wasn't sure. And here you have a great one just slabbed. Could you let us know what it cost to do it? There is shipping cost and insurance (can be split if multiple coins sent in, but what was the actual cost), cost to grade it, and cost to add the variety. I don't use PCGS purely because I think it would be too expensive. Would love to know actual costs based on a real coin recently submitted.

It ran almost $100 to add everything and tru view. I had a friend send it in. Without truview gold shield it should be about $40-$50

Thanks Collector! That's quite helpful. I really like having the truview images of coins as they really help add information about coins, but that does sound like a lot of extra money for that part of it. And you've got your hands on some very nice coins! Huge congrats.

Your welcome and I love your coin also!! It's my favorite variety and I try collecting the red ones. You did amazing for that price it's a nice $150-200 in my opinion. I don't see them red to often and 65 and up. I was excited when it came back MS66.according to the PCGS facts there is only 8 in MS66 per PCGS. There are others with other TPGs PCGS has always been my favorite!! Congrats on your coin also . I'm hoping to one day maybe find the first one to certify MS67 with them!lol that would be amazing
